Lakeshore Storms

Just a few days ago on October 19. 2019, Michigan was hit with a catastrophic storm that caused severe wreckage to the lakeshore. Lake Michigan’s waves were a towering 10 feet, and 50 mph wind gusts tore across the sandy beaches, knocking over tall trees along the lakeshore. Beaches and sand dunes were eroded, which made the lake water inch closer to the slew of beach houses plotted on the shoreline. In the areas hit the hardest, 10-20 feet of dune bluff was eroded with in a 12-hour period. So far, this storm has been the most destructive this fall, though other storms have attributed to the eroding lake shore as well. Because the lake’s water levels are expected to stay high, it’s likely that beach erosion will continue into 2020. According to MLIVE.com, “The strongest west winds come on a strong storm or two in November. Just based on the time of year, there could be even bigger waves producing storms in the next month”. That being said, if any of Michigan’s fall storms damage or flood your home or business, give the restoration experts at SERVPRO a call!
